Ready, Set, Go!

I started The Pickwick Papers yesterday. (Yeah, I started early. What of it?) I can definitely see the influence of Don Quixote. I've had a couple of chuckle-out-loud moments.

I also need to modify an opinion. Earlier in the year, I became obsessed was quite intrigued with the idea of purchasing The Penguin Classics Library Complete Collection. And while I would still be ecstatic if someone would buy it for me (Listen to me, I'm actually covering my tracks in case someone bought it for me for Christmas. Yeah, right.), I do have to say I like the Barnes and Noble Classics (trade paper, not the mass market paperbacks) slightly better. The print is larger, for one thing, and the notes are at the bottom of the page. I become slightly obsessed with footnotes. Is it worth flipping to the back for? Will I miss something important if I don't go read the footnote? If the note is just at the bottom of the page, I do a bit better. But that's just me.

A quick check of my reading list from 2005 shows that I read 31 books last year. That's not counting all the books I started and never finished, and I'm sure I missed one or two. I also crocheted more this year than I ever have. That makes me feel better about being able to finish all of Dickens in 2006. I've never kept track of what I've read before; it's interesting to look back and remember. If you're interested, here's the link. But some of the Amazon links don't work -- I got lazy towards the end.

Other than that, you would not know by looking at me that Christmas is two days away (well, other than the Christmas tree sitting here beside me). Have I wrapped anything? Nah! Have I got anything ready? Nah! That's what the last minute is for, isn't it?

Merry Christmas!
